About Moulamein

The Moulamein Grain Co-operative Ltd was established in August 2001 and was fully operational 3 months later receiving grain as a bulk handler.

The Co-op was formed by 26 local progressive farmers, all who were concerned about grain storage in the Moulamein area. The first harvest was a total success receiving approximately 30,000 tonnes of Wheat and Barley. The creation of the site lead to a more productive harvest for the local community and as a result of greater competition for the grain, the floor price was lifted by an average $20 per tonne. Twelve years later the Co-op has grown to 42 members and operates and additional site at Burraboi with a storage capacity in excess of 100,000 tonnes – our largest receival year being 2010 with 70,000 tonnes taken.

In 2008 farmers from Berriwillock approached the Moulamein Grain Co-op to help facilitate the establishment of a grain receival site in the Berriwillock area. The Berriwillock Grain Storage Co–op now has 35 members and has the storage capacity of 80,000 tonnes and is contract managed by Moulamein Grain Co-operative.

In 2009 Nandaly Grain Co-op was formed by 31 farmers under the same management contract with Moulamein Grain Co-op and the site has the capacity of 80,000 tonnes.

In 2011 Boort Grain Co-op in Victoria and Northern Riverina Grain’s at Tabbita NSW were set up under the same Moulamein Grain Co-op model and finished Site Management in 2017.

In 2015 Landsborough West Co-op in Victoria became our newest site to join the Moulamein Grain Co-op.

Moulamein Grain Co-operative operates the facility under a management contract and are responsible for hiring and firing staff, payroll, all financial reporting, storage and handling agreements, pricing information, segregations, OH@S, staff training, fumigation, pest control, inventory control and systems.
